Museums are the shells of public events,their architecture begins before the architecture itself. – Heinz Tesar places this thought as a motto of deliberations on his newest realisation-the Essl- Collection Museum in Klosterneuburg, a small town on the Danube, close to Vienna. 

This architectural event of the 1999 fall in Vienna comes at the end of a series of realised and unrealised Tesar’s museum projects – the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt (1983.), the Art Museum in Vaduz (1998.) the Natural Sciences Museum in Berlin (1988-1992), the Pre-History Museum in Munich (1990), the realised Celtic Museum in Hallein by Salzburg (1991-1994) and the adaptation of the Bodemuseum on the Berlin’s Museumsinsel (the Museum Island). Permanent origin and impetus of his whole opus, from its beginnings, lies in the polarity between community and individuality-polarity berween “us” and ”me”.
